JBL On Air Wireless AirPlay Speaker Dock

JBL On Air Wireless

We mentioned the JBL On Air Wireless back in December when it hit the FCC and now it’s officially out with an expected “Spring” release date.

The JBL On Air Wireless AirPlay speaker dock is the second wireless AirPlay speaker, after the iHome iW1, but it might be the first to market if it can beat iHome. Time will tell.

On to the details

The JBL On Air Wireless features AirPlay, a color LCD for album art, artist and track info, three JBL transducers (speakers) with 360 degree acoustics, alarm clock, FM radio, iPod/iPhone dock and a USB port for firmware updates.

It also features a unique design which, if you’re using it for an alarm clock, might be mistaken for a UFO on your night table in the middle of the night (if you’re into that kind of thing). The loop houses the three transducers in what JBL calls a HALO (horizontal acoustic level optimization) design which is said to deliver rich full-spectrum sound uniformly across a wide area.

Expected Spring release date and price is unknown.

This looks nice! I think your gallery is malfunctioning though. When I click a picture, it just shrinks into nothing. It’s actually a little funny.

OK, thanks Modano. Looks good on my end. What browser and operating system are you using? Might be a javascript issue.

Is anyone else having issues with the gallery?

Yeah, I’m having the same issue on the latest Safari.

        Great site though!

I found and purchased this JBL at Best Buy today. Very easy setup, sounds ok so far. Probably best as bedside clock. Will update after using for a while.

I actually bought this JBL Airplay alarm clock and found too quickly some downsides of this good looking alarm clock.

    Screen brightness
The setting when most dimmed is still enough to read a book

    Waking up with music/radio
Lowest volume setting is loud enough to wake up the neighbors. Unless you need that volume it will jump start your day.

When Airplay is activated the time is not shown anymore on the display, it only shows a music note; you can make that temporary go away by pressing the on/off button or the home button. It will show you the time but will quickly jump back to the Music Note.

I have had some email conversation with the JBL helpdesk, they stated to be aware of these issues and followed stating this will not be solved….

I now use my iphone’s alarm function, so it is for me a good airplay speaker and docking station, it’s alarmclock function is lost to me.
